The whirlwind of Tiger Woods headlines, rumors and speculation has calmed for now after dominating the front pages of most media outlets for weeks, but a couple of stories caught my eye this week that I figure are good enough to share.
First up: the whole saga from the perspective of…Mr. Burns?
No, there isn't an episode of The Simpsons dedicated to Tiger Woods’ recent troubles just yet. I’m talking about former police officer turned NHL coach turned Florida resident Pat Burns, who told a Montreal radio station this week that his police sources gave him the dirt on what actually happened.
Burns says that when Tiger’s wife Elin Nordegren found texts from one of his ‘other women’ she went Happy Gilmore on his face, knocking out his two front teeth and leaving him with a deep gash on his cheek before chasing him outside and smashing the windows of his SUV.
Here’s another interesting tidbit: Burns says Woods wasn’t available to the police for a few days because he was in Phoenix getting emergency dental and plastic surgery on his face.
Neither Woods, nor his wife Elin Nordegren have spoken publicly about what transpired that night.
The Toronto Sun, always looking to knock Montreal down a peg or two, claims that Burns’ story is “eerily similar” to “friend-of-friend” emails that have been circulating for the past few weeks. His account reads pretty similar to that of 90-year-old ex-Atlanta Journal-Constitution writer Furman Bisher's version of the story too (via TheScore.com Blog).
Did Burns actually get this from his “police sources” in Florida? Probably. I certainly have no idea. What I find interesting in this case is how far-reaching the scandal is, that a former NHL coach is commenting. Seems kind of silly.
In honor of the NY Post putting Tiger Woods on its front page for something like 20+ consecutive days (more cover stories than 9/11), I'm going to post the other story that caught my eye tomorrow. See you then!
