While most of us have stopped thinking about turkey for the year, Allen Iverson is wondering if it’s The Answer.
Yahoo! Sports is reporting the former NBA superstar, now out of a job, is apparently close to a move to Turkish club Besiktas worth as much as $2-million with bonuses.
According to the Yahoo report, one of the things holding up a potential deal has to do with potential fines. Apparently AI is expecting to get into some trouble down in Istanbul, because the main sticking point seems to be that he doesn’t want Besiktas to be able to fine him more than one percent of his $1.5-million base salary.
Seems a bit strange, doesn’t it? I’ve got to say this is the first time I’ve heard of that being something a player makes a big (or any) deal about in contract negotiations.
Then again, Iverson isn’t your run of the mill NBA star. Take last year, for example, when he was voted onto NBA’s East All-Star team despite playing half the number of games that most guys had played at that point. Despite his shortcomings in the past few years, he’s still all kinds of popular, which is why there is still interest him overseas.
It’s interesting that AI wasn’t able to get any type of tryout with an NBA team for this season, but then again, he doesn’t have the best track record as of late.
If he doesn’t end up in Turkey, there’s still a chance he could wind up playing somewhere like China as talks with one team there “aren’t dead” according to an ESPN report.
Speaking of the man with one of the highest grossing shoes of all time, footwear is apparently hard to come by in Toronto right now…
Yahoo's Ball Don't Lie tells us that Leandro Barbosa and Sonny Weems, both sponsored by Adidas, are going through some tough times when it comes to their kicks because of a shoe shortage!
Barbosa is being forced to wear shoes that don’t even come close to matching his red, white and black Raptors jersey, while Weems has resorted to rocking Nike shoes because he hasn’t been sent anything else.
I wonder if either of them has gone to their local shopping mall recently – surely they could just send Adidas the bill!
