In this edition of the GOTW, we’ve got some solid hand-eye coordination, a nifty overtime winner, a couple of pretty passing plays and a pretty awesome individual effort to round things out.
5. Joe Pavelski
This guy is all kinds of clutch in the playoffs, but he’s not bad during the regular season either! Watch as Joe Pavelski tracks down this Josh Harding rebound with a spinning swing of the stick. Also: listen to the ridiculous comment made by the commentator before the goal about the number of shots the Sharks have in the game.
4. Claude Giroux
He has featured before on my list, and we all knew he’d be back – check out the dirty mitts on Claude Giroux on this breakaway in overtime! It seems like this guy is just money from anywhere on the ice this season, so hopefully he’s back from that concussion soon.
3. Jiri Hudler
The Detroit Red Wings pulverized the Winnipeg Jets last weekend 7-1, and it looks like Jiri Hudler and the Wings saved the best for last. Check out the nice little passing play that ensues after Dustin Byfuglien coughs up the puck in his own end (Start at the 10:10 mark)!
2. Ville Leino
This goal is all about second effort and soft hands – the Sabres turn the puck over in the offensive zone but manage to recover and make the Flyers pay. A couple of backhand passes later, Ville Leino tosses it into a wide-open net.
1. Nick Foligno
Nick Foligno was the relatively easy choice for number one this week – watch him make the Washington Capitals look a bit silly at the tail end of an Ottawa Senators power play. He skates untouched through just about everyone before tapping the puck into the net with one hand. Beauty!
What the Puck?
We’re going to switch it up a bit this week - instead of talking about Ryan Miller getting a puck in the face or Artem Anisimov shooting down his opponents, here’s a beauty clip from a Gonger playing out in Colorado.
Check out my buddy Adam Chorneyko of the ECHL’s Colorado Eagles “Tebowing” after he puts the biscuit in the basket!
